Aegon's Conquest Game of Thrones spin-off

Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest Spin-off Being Developed by The Batman 2 Writer

Mattson Tomlin is developing a new Game of Thrones spin-off.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is moving forward with Aegon’s Conquest, a Game of Thrones spin-off that will serve as a prequel to House of the Dragon.

HBO is partnering with Tomlin to develop the series. Tomlin was an uncredited writer on 2022’s The Batman, while he also co-wrote the upcoming sequel, The Batman Part II, with Matt Reeves. Additionally, Tomlin wrote the screenplay to 2020’s Project Power and was a script consultant on 2022’s The Sea Beast.

His other upcoming projects include the film adaptation of BRZRKR and an anime Terminator series, both of which will be released through Netflix.

What will Ageon’s Conquest be about?

“The story follows the invader Aegon Targaryen, who conquered the continent of Westeros with his sister wives, Rhaenys and Visenya, and their dragons. Aegon successfully unified six of the Seven Kingdoms in just two years, with only Dorne able to successfully resist,” The Hollywood Reporter’s description reads.

Variety first reported that HBO was eyeing an Aegon’s Conquest Game of Thrones show in April 2023. One source told The Hollywood Reporter that the series would be a “back to basics” approach for the franchise.

Since Game of Thrones ended in 2019, HBO has begun developing a number of spin-off series, some of which are no longer active at this time. So far, the only spin-off that’s made it to air is House of the Dragon, which will premiere its second season later this year; however, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is expected to begin filming later this year.

George R. R. Martin also recently said that HBO is in various stages of developing several animated Game of Thrones spin-off series.

Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are currently streaming on Max.
