Bareilly Ki Barfi Ending Explained & Spoilers: How Did Kriti Sanon’s Movie End?

Bareilly Ki Barfi, a 2017 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film, is directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari. This charming tale is based on Nicolas Barreau’s novel The Ingredients of Love. It stars Kriti Sanon as Bitti Mishra, Ayushmann Khurrana as Chirag Dubey, and Rajkummar Rao as Pritam Vidrohi.

The film is further enriched by the performances of Pankaj Tripathi and Seema Pahwa in supporting roles. It was released theatrically on August 18, 2017, and it was met with widespread critical acclaim.

Why did Bitti run away from home?

The story unfolds in Bareilly, where Bitti Mishra, a free-spirited and tomboyish girl, lives with her parents. Her life takes a dramatic turn when, after another failed attempt at an arranged marriage, she runs away from home. At the railway station, Bitti buys a book titled “Bareilly Ki Barfi” and is stunned to find that the protagonist, Barfi, shares an uncanny resemblance to her life and personality. Furthermore, she is intrigued and excited by it. She returns home with a new mission: to find the book’s author, Pritam Vidrohi. She also believes that he will accept her just as she is.

Bitti’s search leads her to Chirag Dubey, who runs a printing press where the book was published. Chirag, hiding the fact that he is the real author, tells Bitti that Vidrohi, whose name he used as a pseudonym, has moved out of town. Chirag wrote the book five years ago, inspired by his past relationship with a girl named Babli, the real-life Barfi. He agrees to help Bitti by forwarding her letters to Vidrohi and returning his replies.

Why does Chirag hide his real identity?

As Bitti and Chirag grow closer, she remains eager to meet Vidrohi, unaware that Chirag is the man behind the words she admires. Chirag arranges for Bitti to meet the real Pritam Vidrohi, bringing him back from Lucknow. Chirag does so to confirm if Bitti is indeed like his ex-girlfriend or if it is merely a coincidence. Pritam, initially portrayed as a rough and uncouth man as part of Chirag’s plan, surprisingly begins to win Bitti’s affection, leading to complications.

Chirag, worried about losing Bitti, tries to sabotage Pritam’s image, to the extent of even lying about a failed marriage in Pritam’s past. This backfires, spoiling things for Bitti’s friend Rama, who had developed feelings for Pritam. Pritam, in turn, revolts against Chirag’s manipulations, refusing to step back and announcing his engagement with Bitti.

Bareilly Ki Barfi ending: Did Bitti finally know the true identity of the author?

As the story nears its climax, Chirag, accepting his loss, writes a heartfelt letter to Bitti as Vidrohi, intending for Pritam to read it at their engagement. However, circumstances lead Chirag to read the letter himself. This becomes a pivotal moment as Bitti reveals that she had known all along about Chirag being the real author. She has been testing if Chirag’s feelings for her were genuine or merely an extension of his past with Babli.

In the end, true love triumphs. Chirag and Bitti, realizing their love for each other, come together. Pritam finds his match in Rama. The film concludes with both couples leading happy married lives in Bareilly, wrapping up a tale that beautifully blends humor, love, and the quaint charm of small-town India. Bareilly Ki Barfi not only offers a heartwarming narrative but also showcases the complexities of love and the human desire for acceptance and understanding.
