Denis Villeneuve Shares Latest Updates on Dune: Messiah, Cleopatra, and Rama

In an interview with Time Magazine, Denis Villeneuve shared his plans for three films to work on after Dune: Part Two. These projects include Dune: Messiah, Cleopatra, and Rama.

What Did Denis Villeneuve Say About Dune: Messiah, Cleopatra, and Rama?

Dune: Messiah, or Dune 3, has not been officially greenlit by Warner Bros. However, the early box projections for Dune: Part Two have been high, with many predicting it will be the biggest film for the first half of 2024. If Dune 2 becomes a hit, Dune: Messiah will likely happen. Though he wants to work on another project before Messiah, Villeneuve has called the third film his “dream.” Villeneuve said Dune: Messiah will be the final Dune movie he makes.

Villeneuve has expressed interest in developing an adaptation of Cleopatra. Villeneuve shared that his movie about the legendary Egyptian Queen was being written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917, Last Night in Soho).

The third and final project Villeneuve mentioned was Rama, an adaptation based on Arthur C. Clarke’s Rendezvous With Rama. Villeneuve signed on to direct Rama in December 2021. Eric Roth, a co-writer on 2021’s Dune, revealed on the A Script Apart podcast that Villeneuve hired him to write a movie about “space and time.” Roth did not confirm nor deny the script was for Rama.

Dune: Part Two, Villeneuve’s highly-anticipated sequel to Dune, is set to be released in theaters on March 1, 2024.
