IU and Park Bo-Gum To Lead Netflix K-Drama When Life Gives You Tangerines

South Korean actors IU and Park Bo-Gum will lead the new Netflix K-Drama When Life Gives You Tangerines (Working Title). The Korean title for the series is written in Jeju dialect, which translates to “Thank You For Your Hard Work” or “You Have Done Well.” The series tells the story of two individuals—Ae-Sun and Gwan-Sik—who lead adventure-filled lives. The drama includes a stellar cast, with both the leads playing key characters.

When Life Gives You Tangerines has a powerful team leading the series. Popular writer Kim Sang-Chun, who is known for Fight For My Way and When the Camelia Blooms, serves as the writer of the series. Kim Won-Seok, popular for directing My Mister, Signal, and Misaeng: Incomplete Life, will helm the series. The drama is one of the most anticipated K-dramas of 2024.

The upcoming Netflix K-drama When Life Gives You Tangerines will document the adventurous lives of Ae-Sun (IU) and Gwan-Sik (Park Bo-Gum). The two navigate personal lives and challenges while living in Jeju in the 1950s.

Ae-Sun is a “desperate rebel” and has a bold personality. She was born and raised in Jeju and fights against her fate. Meanwhile, Gwan-Sik is extremely reliable and expresses himself through actions rather than words. He is sincere towards his life and loyal in his fondness for Ae-Sun.

IU will be working with director Kim Won-Seok after they teamed up in the hit 2009 K-drama My Mister. She is also popular for her acting prowess, which has been showcased in many TV shows and movies, including Hotel Del Luna, Dream, and more. Park Bo-Gum has also shown his skills in many popular series, including Reply 1988, Record of Youth, and many others.

Meanwhile, the Netflix drama will also star Moon So-Ri (Queenmaker, Three Sisters, Lace) and Park Jae-Hoon (My Mister, The World of the Married, 12.12: The Day). The two will essay the roles of older versions of Ae-Sun and Gwan-Sik, respectively.
