A Complete Unknown: Edward Norton Replaces Benedict Cumberbatch in Bob Dylan Biopic

According to Deadline, Oscar nominee Edward Norton will officially be joining Timothée Chalamet in Searchlight Pictures’ upcoming Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown.

Norton is replacing Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch for the role of American folk singer Pete Seeger. Cumberbatch exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. Production on the music biographical drama is scheduled to start this summer in New York.

What to expect in A Complete Unknown?

A Complete Unknown (formerly titled as Going Electric) will be directed by James Mangold from a screenplay written by Jay Cocks. Chalamet has attached to portray Bob Dylan since 2020. In a previous interview, the Wonka actor confirmed that he enlisted Austin Butler’s Elvis team to help him prepare for the upcoming biopic. The film will also star Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, “Dylan’s early-’60s love interest, a university student and artist.”

The film chronicles Bob Dylan’s rise in folk music and sudden transition to rock ‘n’ roll. The story will also see Dylan’s interaction with 1960s music legends which include Joan Baez and Pete Seeger. Searchlight Pictures also has the rights to the Pop Culture icon’s music. It is executive produced by Dylan along with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Andrew Rona. Jeff Rosen, who is Dylan’s longtime manager, has also signed on as a producer with Mangold, Veritas Entertainment Group’s Bob Bookman, Alan Gasmer, and Peter Jaysen, Automatik’s Fred Berger, and The Picture Company’s Alex Heineman also set to produce.
