Rustin’s Colman Domingo wants to play a James Bond villain.

Speaking with Variety about his recent Oscar nomination for 2023’s Rustin, Domingo was asked what kind of roles he’d be interested in playing sometime in the near future.

“I’d love to work with Yorgos [Lanthimos] in something like Poor Things, or to be a Bond villain,” Domingo answered. “I’m not interested in whatever anyone has seen me do before.”

On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, Domingo received an Academy Award nomination for Actor in a Leading Role. He’ll compete against Bradley Cooper for Maestro, Paul Giamatti for The Holdovers, Cillian Murphy for Oppenheimer, and Jeffrey Wright for American Fiction, with the winner being announced on Sunday, March 10, 2024.

Along with Rustin, Domingo has starred in movies such as 2012’s Lincoln, 2013’s 42, 2014’s Selma, 2018’s If Beale Street Could Talk, 2020’s Zola, 2020’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, 2021’s Candyman, and 2023’s The Color Purple. The future of the James Bond franchise is currently unclear

James Bond’s last outing was in 2021’s No Time To Die, which served as a swan song to Daniel Craig’s take on the character. While there’s been no shortage of online rumors regarding who might play 007 next, there’s been no official word as of yet on what the next chapter in the James Bond franchise might look like.

Franchise producer Barbara Broccoli told The Guardian in October 2023, “Daniel [Craig] gave us the ability to mine the emotional life of the character . . . and also the world was ready for it. I think these movies reflect the time they are in, and there’s a big, big road ahead reinventing it for the next chapter and we haven’t even begun with that.
