Marlon Wayans Cast in GOAT. Justin Tipping Officially Directing Sports Thriller from Jordan Peele

Jordan Peele‘s Monkeypaw Productions has officially lined up a director and star for its psychological sports thriller GOAT.

Peele Find His GOAT

Justin Tipping, who had previously been reported as Jordan Peele’s choice for director, has officially landed the job. The film’s first star was also revealed to be Marlon Wayans.

GOAT, which stands for Greatest of All Time (a term often used for sporting greats), is about a promising young football player who gets called up to train with the soon-to-retire star player (played by Wayans). Given the psychological thriller tag, it’s a safe bet it’s not going to be a warm and fuzzy sports movie about legacy.

Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions bought a pitch for the psychological thriller from Limetown creators Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie last year. They were subsequently confirmed to be writing the script.

Tipping made his directorial debut in 2016 with the Crime Drama Kicks, which sees fifteen-year-old Brandon and his two best friends go on an ill-advised mission across the Bay Area to retrieve the stolen sneakers. After that, Tipping headed to television, directing episodes of Black Monday, The Chi, Dear White People, Flatbush Misdemeanors, and Peacock’s Joe vs. Carole.

Marlon Wayans has a prosperous career full of drama and comedy performances. He’s best known for Requiem for a Dream, Scary Movie, White Chicks, and last year’s Air. He’s also received plenty of writing credits on comedies such as Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.

GOAT will be produced by Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, and Jamal Watson, with executive producers David Kern and Kate Oh.
