Grounded 2: The Last of Us Part 2 Documentary: Why Was the Project Previously Abandoned?

Naughty Dog has confirmed that they will release a documentary titled Grounded 2: Making The Last of Us Part 2. However, its official release date remains to be announced.

According to Naughty Dog’s official X-handle update, this documentary will be available on YouTube as a post-launch update for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. The upcoming project is a sequel to the 2014 documentary Grounded: The Making of The Last of Us.

NME reports that Naughty Dog will release The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on January 19, 2024, for the PlayStation 5. They further reported that work on Grounded 2 originally began in 2016. However, it was abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The synopsis of the upcoming documentary, according to its trailer on YouTube, reads, “Learn directly from the team at Naughty Dog about what it took to bring the acclaimed sequel The Last of Us™ Part II to life, with a new behind-the-scenes look at development. Stay tuned to Naughty Dog’s official social accounts for details on when to expect the full documentary.”

When was The Last of Us Part 2 released?

The Last of Us Part 2 was released on PlayStation 4 on June 19, 2020. It is a sequel to 2013’s The Last of Us and continues the complicated story of Joel and Ellie. Fans and critics well-received The Last of Us Part 2, and it even won several prestigious gaming awards.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the game’s co-creator Neil Druckmann recently stated, “The release of The Last of Us Part II was a deeply emotional experience for all of us at the studio, and we’re so proud we could tell the story we wanted to with it.”

In January 2023, HBO adapted the first game into a TV series. It starred Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.
