Will There Be a Saltburn 2 Release Date & Is It Coming Out?

Written, directed, and co-produced by Emerald Fennell, Saltburn is a psychological drama film. The plot revolves around Oliver Quick, an Oxford student struggling to fit in among his upper-class peers. He becomes friends with Felix Catton and tells him about the history of his parents’ substance abuse. As the boys grow close, Felix invites Oliver to his family home, the eponymous Saltburn, where things begin to spiral out of control as soon as the two young men arrive. Saltburn premiered on August 31, 2023, and received mostly positive reviews. If you are wondering whether there will be Saltburn 2, this is what we have discovered.

Here’s all we know about Saltburn 2 and whether or not it’s coming out.

Is there a Saltburn 2 release date?

There is no Saltburn 2 release date as the film hasn’t been greenlit yet and is unlikely to be developed in the future.

When the credits start rolling, Saltburn has finished the story it set out to tell, so there is hardly any narrative scope for a sequel. The film has similarities with Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited (1945), which doesn’t have a second part. Toward the end of the film (spoilers warning for those who haven’t seen it), Oliver succeeds in ensuring the complete extinction of the Catton family and becomes the new owner of Saltburn. As unsettling and nihilistic as that ending is, it is what the plot was building toward. As that has been achieved, there is no need for a sequel.

While Paul Rhys, who portratys Duncan, the Catton family butler, has speculated on a prospective sequel focused on his character, it was done humorously, and he mentioned that it was a joke on the set. “He’s [Duncan] very much still there,” the actor said in an interview with Collider. “I think eventually Duncan would reveal him. Eventually he’d find a way because he knows something is wrong. We used to have a joke on the set that the follow-up film, Saltburn 2, would be called Duncan’s Revenge … Duncan probably murders him and has retribution and revenge for the family that he loved. And also, nobody else speaks except Duncan, so that’s the other bit of revenge.”

The cast of Saltburn includes Barry Keoghan as Oliver Quick, Jacob Elordi as Felix Catton, Rosamund Pike as Lady Elspeth Catton, Richard E. Grant as Sir James Catton, Alison Oliver as Venetia Catton, Archie Madekwe as Farleigh Start, Carey Mulligan as “Poor Dear” Pamela, Paul Rhys as Duncan, Ewan Mitchell as Michael Gavey, Sadie Soverall as Annabel, Millie Kent as India, Reece Shearsmith as Professor Ware, and more.

Why Saltburn 2 might not behappening

Saltburn 2 probably isn’t coming out because, as mentioned above, there is little to no narrative scope for it. ComingSoon will provide an update if the circumstances change.

The official synopsis for Saltburn reads:

“Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, student Oliver Quick finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton, who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family’s sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten.”
