Godzilla Minus One Final Trailer: Postwar Japan Faces a New Threat

Toho International has unveiled the final trailer for the upcoming Kaiju movie Godzilla Minus One. Serving as Toho’s first Godzilla film since the release of Shin Godzilla in 2016, the Takashi Yamazaki-directed feature will hit U.S. theaters on December 1.

Rated PG-13 for “creature violence and action,” the newly released trailer promises a chaotic movie, with the popular character Godzilla wreaking havoc in postwar Japan. You can watch the trailer down below:

Apart from Yamazaki — an award-winning filmmaker who worked on the visual effects for Shin Godzilla — serving as the forthcoming film’s director and writer, Godzilla Minus One also boasts an ensemble cast, with Ranman stars Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe playing main leads Koichi Shikishima and Noriko Oishi, respectively.

Rounding out the cast are Yuki Yamada (Tokyo Revengers) as Shiro Mizushima, Munetaka Aoki (Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends) as Sosaku Tachibana, Hidetaka Yoshioka (Dr. Coto’s Clinic) as Kenji Noda, Sakura Ando (Petal Dance) as Sumiko Ota, and Kuranosuke Sasaki (My Home Hero) as Seiji Akitsu.

Besides the highly anticipated Kaiju movie, Godzilla has recently graced television screens with the release of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on November 17. The series is now available to stream on Apple TV+.

What is Godzilla Minus One about?

The upcoming film is set in a time when Japan’s war has just ended. With no self-defense force and no weapons, the country faces another threat when a massive monster appears out of nowhere to terrorize the country once again.

“Japan is already devastated by the war when a new crisis emerges in the form of a giant monster,” the synopsis for Godzilla Minus One reads.
