The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Canceled for a Week Following Medical Emergency

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will be taking a week off as Colbert recovers from a recent surgery, according to a recent statement from the host.

The late-night talk show host and comedian took to Instagram on Monday to confirm that this week of shows would be canceled as he’s recovering from surgery after suffering a ruptured appendix at some point in the previous few days.

This week’s guests included Barbara Streisand and more

“Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week,” reads Colbert’s post. “I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?’ Actually, I’m recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix. I’m grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me. Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas.”

While no episode was planned for Monday, the week of shows was set to include guest appearances by Barbara Streisand, Jennifer Garner, Baz Luhrmann, Patrick Stewart, and Kelsey Grammer. It’s unclear if or when those guests will return to talk with Colbert, however, so fans will have to wait for an update.
