Scream 7 Director Responds to Mellisa Barrera Firing Decision

Scream 7 director Christopher Landon has commented on the firing of the film’s lead, Mellisa Barrera, over her Pro-Palestine stance.

Scream 7 Director Responds to Controversial Firing

Although Landon has nothing to do with Barrera’s exit from Scream 7, he naturally had fans asking him about it. So he responded on X (formerly Twitter).

“This is my statement: Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make.”

The understandably guarded response was met with disapproval from some quarters that support Barrera and Palestine, and the post has since been deleted with no further comment.

Last month, the actress took to Instagram to share a story in support of Palestine amidst the ongoing conflict. In her story, Barrera said that Palestine would be free, and said she — a Mexican-born woman — also came from a colonized country. Since then, she’s continued to support Palestine on her social media. This is thought to be the root of her being ”quietly let go” from the slasher sequel.

Barrera, who plays Sam Carpenter in the movie, has been a key part of the new cast for the Scream series in the previous two entries alongside Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding. At this time, it is unknown how her co-stars will react. Ortega has shown similar support for Palestine in recent weeks, so it remains to be seen if that will also be targeted.

However, Ortega isn’t yet confirmed to be involved in Scream 7 as her star has risen significantly since she appeared in Scream 5 thanks to the hit Netflix show Wednesday.
