Tennant originally assumed the part of The Doctor beginning at the end of 2005. He played the role through three series and several specials until the beginning of 2010, when he passed the role onto Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor.

The upcoming fourteenth season of Doctor Who, which hails from showrunner Russell T. Davies, will feature Ncuti Gatwa as the titular lead. He will officially become the first-ever Black actor to portray the iconic character in the history of the franchise.
