Dragon Ball Daima Name Meaning Explained by Creator Akira Toriyama

Following the announcement of the new Dragon Ball anime, Dragon Ball Daima, at New York Comic Con, mangaka Akira Toriyama revealed the meaning behind the title and what the anime entails. The Dragon Ball creator himself is helping develop the forthcoming anime, so longtime fans of the franchise can expect the show to be more connected to the original material.

Dragon Ball Daima Will See Goku and His Friend as Their Younger Selves

On the anime’s title, Toriyama revealed that “Daima” is a made-up term, which could mean “evil” when translated in English. He also shared a brief premise, revealing that Goku and his friends will be turned back into kids.

As they embark on a journey to turn themselves back into their normal physiques and sizes, Goku will be using a power, which — according to Toriyama — is something fans have not seen in a long time.

“I came up with the story and settings, as well as a lot of the designs. I’m actually putting a lot more into this than usual,” said Toriyama. “Things will unfold that close in on the mysteries of the Dragon Ball world.”

The upcoming anime series is described as “a story never told” in the franchise’s history. Apart from the meaning behind the title, the anime’s premise, and Toriyama’s involvement, nothing much has been revealed yet about Dragon Ball Daima, including the exact release date. However, it is expected to premiere sometime in 2024, 40 years after the original manga was first published.
