Goblet of Fire Sells 5 Million Units Day One

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire sold about 5 million units in North America its first day on sale, reports Video Business.

Each of the last three installments earned top five sales slots on VB’s year-end charts for overall DVD/VHS sellers. Last release Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban wound up selling 10.2 million units and generating $185 million in revenue, ranking No. 5 in 2004.

“We’re extremely pleased with the out-of-the-gate success of the DVD release of ‘Goblet of Fire,'” Warner Home Video president Ron Sanders said. “We knew that fans really connected with this installment in the ‘Harry Potter’ series, and that continued loyalty to the franchise has carried over to these phenomenal sales figures.”

Warner did not differentiate between results for sell-through and rental channels.

“Goblet of Fire” raked in $891.1 million in worldwide theatrical grosses.
