Production Has Wrapped on Frankie Freako, The Next Movie From the Director of Psycho Goreman

Hangar 18 Media has announced that Frankie Freako, Steven Kostanski’s follow-up to cult hit Psycho Goreman, has wrapped production.

The film is described as a love letter to the practical FX-driven little monster horror comedies of the ’80s. In fact, the movies directly referenced as inspiration are Gremlins 2 and Ghoulies 3: Ghoulies Go To College. I’d imagine that will bring some of the darker tone and splatter Kostanski brought to Psycho Goreman, especially as a new FX studio was created for the film. Action Pants FX is spearheaded by Kostanski and partners Pasha Patriki, Michael Paszt, Andrew Thomas Hunt, and James Fler.

Hangar 18 Media, Raven Banner, and Shout! Studios also announced that Shout! has acquired all U.S. distribution rights to Frankie Freako for cross-platform releases, with Raven Banner Releasing handling Canadian distribution.

Frankie Freako Plot Summary

Frankie Freako tells the story of workaholic yuppie Conor Sweeney (The Editor, Father’s Day) whose perfect life is turned upside down when he accidentally unleashes a trio of tiny trouble-makers led by the titular maniacal rock-n-roll party monster Frankie Freako into his home. It’s a race against time as Conor must defeat the rambunctious ruffians and clean up their trail of destruction before his wife returns from her weekend work trip, all while going on an unexpected journey of self-discovery.

As yet, there is no official release date for Frankie Freako.
