During a recent appearance on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? on Max and CNN, Damon was asked if he and Affleck had ever had a falling out in the nearly 50 years of them being friends. According to Damon, the pair have been “bizarrely close for a long time,” and that a recent Beatles documentary has made him want to work with Affleck even more.

“We’ve been bizarrely close for a long time,” said Damon of his friendship with Affleck. “You know, I was watching Get Back, the Peter Jackson documentary. At the end they’re playing on the roof in London and it says this is the last time that they ever played together live. And it made me so sad to think of because you look at them and they’re so happy. And Ben and I, I called him and I said look man, we were talking about doing this and it’s been 25 years or something since Good Will Hunting like…what are we doing? We both kind of hit the lottery. Why aren’t we working together more often?”

Damon also mentioned that, after his father passed away in 2017, he and Ben also came to a realization that they want to make every second count, and not “fritter away time anymore” between the two of them.

“After my dad passed in 2017 and Ben was very, very close with him,” Damon said. “It’s like it changed something in us, I think and you start to really see the end game and you start to feel like I want to make every second count. I don’t want to fritter away time anymore.”

Both Damon and Affleck grew up together in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and became friends as children. In total, the pair have appeared in nine films together since 1989, including the classic Good Will Hunting, which the pair not only starred in but wrote, which earned them their first Oscar together for Best Screenplay in 1998.
