Cobie Smulders Surprised That Secret Invasion Episode 1’s Ending Wasn’t Leaked

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Cinematic Universe vet Cobie Smulders opened up about her character Maria Hill’s final fate during the ending of Secret Invasion Episode 1. The series debut of the Marvel Studios’ newest Disney+ series ended with the shocking death of the former SHIELD agent who was killed at the hands of Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Gravik disguised as Nick Fury.

“This has been an amazing run. What a dream job,” Smulders said. “On paper, the credits are great, but … every production I’ve done has been an absolute blast with amazing people. So I really don’t have anything to complain about.”

In addition, Smulders revealed that she was surprised that Maria Hill’s death wasn’t leaked ahead of Secret Invasion premiere. “There were a lot of people around, so I’m surprised that there wasn’t an image that got leaked,” she said. “I guess that’s the respect that Marvel has earned over the last decade, which is like, ‘Don’t spoil it for people.’ And nobody did, thankfully.”

What to Expect in Secret Invasion?

“Set in the present-day MCU, Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls,” reads the logline. “Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill, and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.”

Secret Invasion is led by MCU mainstay Samuel L. Jackson, who reprises his role as Nick Fury. He will team up with Captain Marvel‘s Ben Mendelsohn, who returns as the pseudo-leader of the Skrulls, Talos. Joining them are MCU newcomers Kingsley Ben-Adir as the antagonist Gravik, Oscar winner Olivia Colman as MI6 agent Sonya Falsworth, Emilia Clarke as Talos’ now-adult daughter G’iah, Dermot Mulrone, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo. It also features MCU vets Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, and Don Cheadle as Rhodey.

Based on Brian Michael Bendis, Leinil Francis Yu, Mark Morales, and Laura Martin’s comic book series, Secret Invasion is executive produced by Kyle Bradstreet, with Let Him Go director Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim as directors.
