Brian Cox: I’ve Been Doing This for 60 Years, Now I’m the ‘F— Off’ Man

Succession star Brian Cox has opened up about the experience of becoming a cultural icon and being seen primarily as Logan Roy by fans.

What did Brian Cox say about being known for playing Logan Roy?

As part of an interview with Variety, Cox spoke with actress Emily Blunt about acting. Early in the interview, Blunt asked Cox if people treat him differently as a result of playing the intimidating character of Logan Roy on Succession. The actor noted that “it’s a problem,” as he is now “the ‘fuck off’ man” — referring to a phrase his character frequently said in the HBO series.

“It’s a problem,” Cox stated. “I’ve been doing this for 60 years, but now I am the ‘fuck off’ man. It has its charm. But it’s not easy to be a cultural icon. As they say in Scotland, it’s an awfully big job for an ordinary boy.”

Succession’s run is complete after four seasons and 39 episodes. The HBO drama has been met with universal acclaim, winning two Emmy wins for Outstanding Drama Series in 2020 and 2022. For the role of Logan Roy in Succession, Cox has thus far been nominated for two Emmy Awards, both for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series.
