The Flash 2: Ezra Miller Will Return if Sequel Happens Says Director

In an interview with The Playlist, director Andy Muschietti has addressed Ezra Miller‘s future as The Flash. Despite recent controversies surrounding Miller, he confirmed there are no plans to replace them should DC Studios greenlight The Flash 2.

“I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did,” Muschietti revealed. “The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys – it feels like a character that was made for them.”

Last year, Miller was involved in multiple controversies. These included an arrest for second degree assault and felony burglary, as well as accusations of running a cult. They eventually released an apology statement, which detailed a commitment “to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe, and productive stage in [their] life.”

Last February, co-CEO of DC Studios Peter Safran gave fans an update regarding Miller’s current state, revealing that “they’re making enormous progress” with their recovery.

Who’s Involved in The Flash Movie?

The Flash is directed by IT’s Andy Muschietti and written by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey). The film is executive produced by Marianne Jenkins, with Michael Disco and Barbara Muschietti set as producers.

Ezra Miller returns as Barry Allen, who they last portrayed in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Joining Miller are Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Sasha Calle as Supergirl, and Ron Livingston as Henry Allen. Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck will reprise their respective versions of Bruce Wayne/Batman for the film.

“Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past,” reads the synopsis. “But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no super heroes to turn to.”
