Andy Samberg’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Role Revealed

Comedian and actor Andy Samberg has been revealed to be playing a fan-favorite character in the upcoming Sony Pictures Animation sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. One Take News revealed that Samberg will be playing Scarlet Spider, who was briefly seen at the end of the most recent Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer.

In the comics, Scarlet Spider’s real name is Ben Reilly. Reilly is a clone of Peter Parker who was made by the supervillain Jackal. The character was central to the controversial Clone Saga storyline that was a major part of Spider-Man comics in the mid-’90s, though he developed a following in subsequent years.

The film is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. It stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham, Karan Soni, Oscar Isaac, and more.

“Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” reads the synopsis. “After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.”

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is produced by Phil LordChris Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Christina Steinberg with Alonzo Ruvalcaba. Peter Ramsey — the first film’s director — and Aditya Sood are executive producing.
