Speak No Evil: James McAvoy to Star in Blumhouse Thriller

According to Deadline, Golden Globe nominee James McAvoy has signed on to star in Blumhouse’s forthcoming English remake of the 2022 Danish thriller movie Speak No Evil. This marks McAvoy’s latest collaboration with the studio after working together in M. Night Shyamalan‘s Split and Glass, in which he portrayed a man with multiple personalities named Kevin Wendell Crumb.

McAvoy gained recognition for his acclaimed performances in films such Atonement, The Last King of Scotland, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Wanted, Victor Frankenstein, and My Son. He is also known for portraying a young version of Professor X in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men films.

The Speak No Evil remake will be written and directed by The Woman in Black filmmaker James Watkins. The film will be produced by Jason Blum, with Paul Ritchie, Christian Tafdrup, Jacob Jarek, and Bea Sequeira executive producing.

The original movie was directed by Christian Tafdrup, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Mads Tafdrup. The story centers around two families who met while on vacation in Tuscany. What was supposed to be an idyllic weekend slowly starts unraveling as the Danish families try to stay polite in the face of unpleasantness.

The English remake is scheduled to arrive in theaters on August 9, 2024.
