The Penguin: Theo Rossi Joins Cast of The Batman Spin-off

Fresh off of adding three more cast members to its growing list of stars, the upcoming HBO series The Penguin is set to add Theo Rossi in a starring role.

According to a new report from Deadline, Rossi has been tapped to appear in the series in a “key recurring role” alongside Colin Farrell (who is reprising his role as Oswald “The Penguin” Cobblepot from The Batman) and Cristin Milioti in the upcoming The Batman spin-off.

Details about Rossi’s character are currently unknown.

Alongside Rossi, Farrell, and Milioti, The Penguin is also set to star Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, and Clancy Brown, with Michael Zegen, James Madio, and Scott Cohen also appearing in the show.

Rossi is best known for his roles as Juan Carlos “Juice” Ortiz on the hit FX series Sons of Anarchy, as well as Hernan “Shades” Alvarez in Netflix’s Luke Cage. Recently, he appeared in the 2021 film Army of the Dead, as well as in 2022’s Emily the Criminal opposite Aubrey Plaza.

Set in the world of 2022’s The Batman, the HBO Max series will focus on Oswald Cobblepot. The Penguin will be based on the DC characters created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. It is being written by Lauren LeFranc, who is also set as the showrunner. The first two episodes will be directed by Craig Zobel.

The upcoming The Penguin series will be executive produced by The Batman‘s Dylan Clark and Matt Reeves, Farrell, LeFranc, Daniel Pipski, Adam Kassanand, and Rafi Crohn. It is a joint project between 6th and Idaho, DC Entertainment, Dylan Clark Productions, and Warner Bros. Television.
