About My Father Trailer: Robert De Niro Leads Familial Dramedy

The official About My Father trailer for Lionsgate‘s upcoming dramedy, which stars Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro and comedian Sebastian Maniscalco, has been released. The film is scheduled to make its debut in theaters on May 26, pitting it directly against Disney’s highly-anticipated live-action The Little Mermaid.

The video features Maniscalco’s character as he brings his old-fashioned Italian father to his girlfriend’s eccentric family’s lavish fourth of July celebration, where they get into different kinds of mishaps.

About My Father is directed by Laura Terruso from a screenplay written by Maniscalco and Austen Earl. Joining De Niro and Maniscalco are Leslie Bibb as Ellie, Kim Cattrall as Tigger, Brett Dier as Doug Collins, Anders Holm as Lucky Collins, and David Rasche as Bill.

“The film centers around Sebastian (Maniscalco) who is encouraged by his fiancée (Leslie Bibb) to bring his immigrant, hairdresser father, Salvo (De Niro), to a weekend get-together with her super-rich and exceedingly eccentric family,” reads the synopsis. “The weekend develops into what can only be described as a culture clash, leaving Sebastian and Salvo to discover that the great thing about family is everything about family.”

It is executive produced by Maniscalco, Dan Balgoyen, Jared Goldman, and Judi Marmel, with Andrew Miano, James Myers, Chris Weitz, and Paul Weitz producing.
