Live-Action Hellboy Movie Reboot in Development at Millennium Media

A new Hellboy movie is reportedly in the works at Millennium Media with a director already attached and a script having already been written.

DiscussingFilm reported that Brian Taylor will be directing the upcoming Hellboy film. Taylor is best known for directing several episodes of Happy! and co-directing two of the Crank movies and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance with Mark Neveldine. He also co-wrote 2010’s Jonah Hex with Neveldine.

No actor has been revealed to be playing the titular character yet, and the movie currently has no distributor. Filming is reportedly set to begin in Bulgaria this April.

The outlet notes that Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and author Christopher Golden are receiving story credits on the film, though it’s not clear as to whether they worked on the screenplay. The outlet’s sources say that the movie’s working title is Hellboy: The Crooked Man, though it’s unknown if the film will be based on The Crooked Man story from the Hellboy comics.

“In 1956, somewhere in the mountains of West Virginia, Hellboy encounters Tom, a man who in his youth sold his soul to a backwoods demon known as the Crooked Man,” reads the volume’s synopsis. “Together they travel back into the dark heart of the Appalachian mountains to confront that demon and see if Tom’s soul can’t be saved.”

The most recent Hellboy movie was released in 2019 and starred David Harbour. It received largely negative reception from critics and fans and was compared to the popular Guillermo del Toro Hellboy movies of the mid-2000s.
