EA Announces New Iron Man Game

New Iron Man Game Announced From Star Wars: Squadrons Team

It looks like there was at least one Marvel game announcement that didn’t make it into the recent Disney and Marvel Games Showcase. Electronic Arts officially announced a new Iron Man game coming from Motive Studio. No release window or platforms were given.

However, the team did reveal that it will be a single-player, third-person, action adventure game and is currently early in development. The latter part checks out since Motive is currently heading up the Dead Space remake that’s slated for January 27, 2023. It will feature an original story that channels “complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark” and is being designed to make players truly feel like Iron Man.

Olivier Proulx is leading this team and has worked on other games like Marvel’s Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. Ian Frazier, Maëlenn Lumineau, and JF Poirier were also specifically called out as industry leaders joining Proulx, the latter two of whom worked at Ubisoft on a number of big titles. Proulx gave a statement, calling it a privilege to make such a game.

“It’s an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to make a video game based on one of the most iconic Super Heroes in entertainment today,” said Proulx. “We have a great opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel is encouraging us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team.”

Marvel Games Vice President and Creative Director Bill Rosemann also gave a statement on the new title.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at Motive Studio to bring their original vision of one of Marvel’s most important, powerful and beloved characters,” said Rosemann. “Their experience delivering both established entertainment worlds and thrilling gameplay — combined with their authentic passion for the armored icon — will fuel our quest to deliver a love letter to a legendary hero in the form of the ultimate Iron Man video game.”

While vague, the post ended by saying it was the “first of several new games,” meaning that there are likely more Marvel games in production. One of these titles might be the rumored open-world Black Panther game that is being helmed by one of EA’s newest teams.

Insider Jeff Grubb reported on said Black Panther title as well as this Iron Man game. Grubb stated in August that EA was indeed working on another Marvel game, something fellow leaker Tom Henderson loosely linked to Iron Man. Grubb later then confirmed he was talking about Iron Man. This came after EA announced its renewed commitment to single-player games following the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, as evidenced by its upcoming slate of solo titles like Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, the Dead Space remake, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and now this Iron Man game.
