Report: Sony’s Madame Web Character Details Revealed

As production continues on Madame Web, the first character details for Sony Pictures’ next Marvel film have reportedly been confirmed by Cosmic Circus (via MSS Reddit). Despite the recently released set photos which seemingly suggested that Dakota Johnson would be playing Julia Carpenter, it has been revealed that Johnson is actually portraying the role of Cassandra Web.

Meanwhile, Adam Scott and Emma Roberts are playing young versions of Uncle Ben and Mary Parker, respectively, with Mary Parker being Peter Parker’s mother. The outlet’s sources also note that Euphoria breakout Sydney Sweeney is actually the one playing Julia Carpenter, while Celeste O’Connor and Isabela Merced have been cast for the respective roles of Mattie Franklin and Anya Corazon.

Should these Madame Web character details indeed be proven true, it seemingly teases that the film would be a prequel, given the inclusion of young Uncle Ben and young Mary Parker. However, it might also be set in a new universe.

Sony’s Madame Web is being led by Dakota Johnson as the titular Spider-Man character. Joining Johnson are Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Isabela Merced (Transformers: The Last Knight), and Emma Roberts (American Horror Story), along with Golden Globe nominee Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps (The Upshaws), and Adam Scott (Severance).

Created by writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr. in 1980, Madame Web is a blind psychic that has become a major player in the world of Spider-Man due to her ties to “The Great Web,” a multiversal construct that ties all “Spider” characters together across the multiverse.

Madame Web is being directed by S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones) from a screenplay written by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.

It is currently set to make its debut in theaters on October 6, 2023.
