Marvel’s Avengers Revives Swimsuit Tradition With Sunny Days Outfits

It’s time for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to break out the beachwear, as summer is coming to Marvel’s Avengers in a big way. Black Widow, Thor, and Iron Man will get brand-new outfits over the next two weeks that are designed for the swimming pool more than the battlefield. Widow’s revealing two-piece ensemble will be in the game’s marketplace tomorrow, while Thor and Tony’s spiffy swim trunks will arrive in the coming weeks.

At first glance, it might seem out of character for heroes like Thor and Black Widow to take on the forces of AIM in their swimwear, but the newest outfits coming to Marvel’s Avengers still harken back to comic book history. Amidst the height of the comics boom in the 1990s, Marvel published an annual special issue dedicated to pin-ups of male and female heroes in revealing swimwear. Meant as a parody of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, the annual included fake interviews and advertisements alongside the saucy illustrations.

Nevertheless, these three suits were leaked earlier this month by Miller, an insider who is regularly on point when it comes to news about Marvel service games. When he talked about the costumes, he said that these three were the entire set, meaning that any further swimsuits will have to be added in the coming summer or come off the shelves off-season. The Incredible Hulk is already so close with his regular purple pants, so it seems like it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to get him a more proper trunk, but if that does come to fruition, it likely won’t be until next season.

YouTuber Sonicphoto was also able to get early access to all three skins and created a short video showing them off in the game.
