Fast and Furious’ Justin Lin to Direct One-Punch Man Film

Frequent Fast & Furious director Justin Lin is set to direct the live-action film adaptation of the hit manga and anime One-Punch Man.

According to Deadline, the writers behind Venom and Jumanji: The Next Level, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, will be writing the film while Lin directs. Lin was previously set to direct Fast X but, following creative differences with star Vin Diesel, left the project.

Avi Arad, the producer of various Spider-Man films, will be producing alongside Ari Arad of Arad Productions, as well as Lin. Sony Pictures acquired the One-Punch Man film rights from manga publisher Shueisha, and is reportedly hoping to begin production on the film by the end of the year.

The worldwide hit manga series was created in 2009 by Japanese artist ONE as a webcomic. In 2012, the comic was published on Shueisha’s Young Jump Next, illustrated by Yusuke Murata along with ONE. Worldwide sales for the series hit over 30 million copies. The English edition was published by VIZ Media in the U.S. in 2015, with the first and second volumes earning a spot on the New York Times manga bestsellers list. The comics were also nominated for an Eisner and a Harvey Award.
