Strange World Teaser Previews Disney’s Next Animated Pic Starring Jake Gyllenhaal

Walt Disney Animation Studios has released a teaser trailer for Strange World, its forthcoming fantasy animated film that features the voice of Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 23, 2022.

“I loved reading the old issues of pulps growing up,” director Don Hall said in a statement. “They were big adventures in which a group of explorers might discover a hidden world or ancient creatures. They’ve been a huge inspiration for Strange World.”

The video, which you can check out below along with the new key art, introduces Gyllenhaal’s character Searcher Clade, who is described as the son of a steadfast explorer. It provides us with a preview of the mysterious, weird, and fantastical titular world, which Searcher accidentally travels to.

The original action-adventure film is described as a nod to pulp magazines—popular fiction from the first half of the 20th century that was printed on inexpensive wood pulp paper.

“The film journeys deep into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await the legendary Clades, a family of explorers whose differences threaten to topple their latest—and by far— most crucial mission,” reads the synopsis.
