Apple’s Live-Action Godzilla and Titans Series Adds WandaVision Director

According to Variety, WandaVision director Matt Shankman has been tapped to join Apple TV+’s forthcoming untitled live-action Godzilla and Titans series. The Emmy nominee will be directing two episodes and has also been set as an executive producer. This marks the first update about the project in four months since it received its official series order.

In addition to the live-action series, Shankman is also currently attached to direct another high-profile project in the form of Paramount Pictures’ next Star Trek film. This will mark his second directorial feature.

The untitled series is expected to be set within the world of Legendary’s MonsterVerse. It will reportedly explore “one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch,” following the events of Godzilla vs. Kong.

Following the success of Godzilla vs. Kong, which earned over $467 million at the worldwide box office, Legendary began expansion talks in the MonsterVerse through a series, with Apple immediately showing interest in the project. It didn’t take long for a deal to be struck between the streamer and Legendary, with the company already developing the next untitled film in the MonsterVerse in addition to this new series.

Toho is the owner of the character Godzilla as well as having licensed the rights to Legendary for this upcoming project.
