The Black Phone Trailer: Every Call is Lifeline in Blumhouse Horror Pic

Universal Pictures has released a brand new trailer for Blumhouse’s highly-anticipated horror-thriller The Black Phone, starring Ethan Hawke as a sadistic killer. The film will be arriving in theaters on June 24, pitting it directly against Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic.

The video continues to highlight Hawke’s terrifying character, who kidnaps a kid named Finney and traps him in a soundproof basement with a broken phone. The impossible happens when Finney somehow gets to communicate with the killer’s previous murder victims, who are determined to help him escape.

The Black Phone stars Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke along with up-and-coming young actors Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw. Joining them are James Ransone, Jeremy Davies, Brady Hepner, Jacob Moran, and Jordan Isaiah White. It reunites Derrickson, and Cargill with Ethan Hawke and James Ransone, who all worked together on 2012’s Sinister.

“The film tells the story of Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, who is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement,” reads the official synopsis. “When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.”

It is directed by Scott Derrickson from a screenplay that he co-wrote with long-time collaborator C. Robert Cargill, based on the award-winning short story by Joe Hill from his New York Times bestseller 20th Century Ghosts.
