Good Omens Season 2 Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch & Frances McDormand Exit

As production continues on Good Omens Season 2 in Scotland, Deadline brings word that the upcoming second installment of Neil Gaiman’s fantasy series has welcomed the addition of five new cast members to its roster. This includes Siân Phillips (Dune), Tim Downie (Outlander), Pete Firman (The Magicians), Andi Osho (I May Destroy You), and Alex Norton (Pirates of the Caribbean).

Amazon Studios have also confirmed the return of Derek Jacobi (Gladiator), Mark Gatiss (Sherlock), Steve Pemberton (Killing Eve), Reece Shearsmith (Inside No. 9), and Niamh Walsh (The English Game), with Jacobi reprising his role as Metatron. In addition, it has also been revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch and Frances McDormand won’t be reprising their voice roles in the second season.

Based on Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s 1990 novelGood Omens centers around fussy angel and rare book dealer Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the fast-living demon Crowley (David Tennant) who teamed up to try to stop the impending apocalypse.

“The new 6-episode season will explore storylines that go beyond the original source material to illuminate the uncanny friendship between Aziraphale and Crowley,” reads the synopsis. “Having been on Earth since The Beginning, and with the Apocalypse thwarted, Aziraphale and Crowley are getting back to easy living amongst mortals in London’s Soho when an unexpected messenger presents a surprising mystery.”

Joining Sheen and Tennant in the second season are returning cast members Paul Adeyefa (Bancroft), Michael McKean (Better Call Saul), Miranda Richardson (Stronger), Maggie Service (Quiz), Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen), and Nina Sosanya (Killing Eve), who are all set to portray new characters. The additional cast also includes Jon Hamm (Mad Men) as Angel Gabriel, Doon Mackichan (Plebs) as Angel Michael, Gloria Obianyo (Dune) as Angel Uriel, Liz Carr (Devs) as Saraquel, Quelin Sepulveda (Havoc) as Muriel, and Shelley Conn (Bridgerton).

Good Omens is created and executive produced by Neil Gaiman, who will continue to serve as the showrunner alongside director Douglas Mackinnon. Executive producers are Mackinnon, Rob Wilkins, John Finnemore, and Josh Cole, with Finnemore to co-write the second season with Gaiman.
