PlayStation Plus December 2021 Lineup Features a Soulslike, DC Title, & a Slice of a PS5 Launch Game

The PlayStation Plus December 2021 lineup of games has been officially unveiled after yet another unofficial leak. However, the leak was accurate and revealed that Mortal ShellLego DC Super-Villains, and Godfall: Challenger Edition would be the three titles on offer. They’ll be available from December 7 to January 3.

Godfall: Challenger Edition is both the PlayStation 5 and one of the PlayStation 4 entries on the list. Godfall originally launched on the PS5 and PC before coming to the PS4 in August 2021 alongside its Fire & Darkness expansion. It’s a looter melee action title that was panned at launch for its drab structure and repetitive mission design, which gave it an average score of 60.

However, it doesn’t appear as though the Challenger Edition is the full game. According to the PlayStation Blog, it focuses on three modes: Lightbringer, Dreamstones, and the Ascended Tower of Trials. They are endgame-level challenges, but this edition gives players weapons and skill points to bring them up to speed. Players can also upgrade to the full game and can be played with those who do own the full game on both PS4 and PS5.

Mortal Shell is the highest-rated of the three titles and is a soulslike that originally came out in 2020. The game was praised for its no-fat approach to the genre and inventive melee combat, even if it didn’t stray too far from the typical soulslike formula. An enhanced PS5 version came out in March 2021 and brought visual enhancements and boosted the frame rate to 60 frames per second. It was a free upgrade for those who owned the PS4 version, but it’s unclear if those who redeem this PS4 version on PlayStation Plus will be able to grab the Enhanced Edition for no extra cost. Other games in the past, like November’s The Persistence, have allowed users to grab the PS5 upgrades for free while others, like March’s Final Fantasy VII Remake, have locked subscribers out of a free upgrade.

Lego DC Super-Villains is the second PS4 title and another entry in the Lego series that came out in 2018. Its take on DC villains and various improvements make it one of the more well-received Lego games, but it is still comfortably within that Lego formula.
