Sword Art Online Progressive Tickets Pushed Back, Ordinal Scale Hits Funimation

Tickets for Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night go on sale next week, Funimation announced.

The film, which is set to release in theaters in the U.S. on December 3, 2021, will allow fans to pre-order tickets starting on November 12, 2021. This date is a week later than was initially announced, but isn’t too long of a delay for fans looking to pick up tickets.

Alongside the news, Funimation also announced that Sword Art Online the Movie -Ordinal Scale- has also joined the Funimation streaming service beginning today. Ordinal Scale was originally released in February 2017 and features Kirito and friends diving into a new augmented reality system called Augma.

Sword Art Online Progressive is an adaptation of the light novel series of the same name, serving as an expanded retelling of the Aincrad story arc of the original Sword Art Online. This film is produced by A1 Pictures and directed by Ayako Kono, who previously worked on series like Your Lie in AprilAfter the Rain, and Ace Attorney. The longtime actors of both characters return again, with Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Kirito and Haruka Tomatsu as Asuna.

Aria of a Starless Night premiers in Japan on Saturday, October 30, but will make its way west subbed and dubbed on December 3 thanks to Funimation. Ticket go on sale November 12 in the United States and Canada for both regular theaters and IMAX, and on November 9 for Australia and New Zealand. The film will also screen in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Latin America.
