Home Sweet Home Alone Trailer Previews Disney+’s Holiday Comedy

Disney+ has revealed the official Home Sweet Home Alone trailer for 20th Century Studios’ upcoming holiday adventure comedy reboot, starring Jojo Rabbit breakout star Archie Yates. The film is scheduled to make its debut on Friday, November 12.

The video, which you can check out below along with the key art poster, teases a familiar premise that begins with an overlooked kid who gets accidentally left behind at home. It gives us a preview of all the fun things he’ll do with his newfound freedom as well as the devious clever traps he had set for the thieves. It also teases a connection to the beloved Macaulay Culkin-led films, with the appearance of Devin Ratray’s Buzz McCallister, who is now a police officer.

“Max Mercer is a mischievous and resourceful young boy who has been left behind while his family is in Japan for the holidays,” reads the official synopsis. “So when a married couple attempting to retrieve a priceless heirloom set their sights on the Mercer family’s home, it is up to Max to protect it from the trespassers…and he will do whatever it takes to keep them out. Hilarious hijinks of epic proportions ensue, but despite the absolute chaos, Max comes to realize that there really is no place like home sweet home.”

Home Sweet Home Alone was first announced by former Disney CEO Bob Iger in 2019, after more than three decades since the Chris Columbus-directed first movie debuted in 1990. The Disney+ reboot is produced by Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson, with Jeremiah Samuels set as an executive producer.

The Home Alone franchise began with the fan-favorite 1990 original starring Macaulay Culkin, which went on to become the highest grossing film of that year, bringing in $476.6 million worldwide (equivalent to $934 million in 2019). It then went on to become a holiday franchise with five total films, only two of which starred Culkin.
