Hotel Transylvania: Transformania in Early Talks to Debut on Amazon

Deadline brings word that Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania: Transformania is in early talks to possibly debut the fourth installment in the animated franchise on Amazon Prime Video. The news follows June’s announcement that the film’s theatrical release date had been pushed back to October 1. The outlet notes that the movie has been moved “off the calendar,” meanwhile Sony is reportedly nearing a $100 million deal with the streamer for a global launch (via Variety).

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania is directed by Jennifer Klushka and Derek Drymon from a screenplay written by franchise creator Genndy Tartakovsky, who was previously attached to helm the fourth installment after directing the first three films. The film will be executive produced by Tartakovsky and Michelle Murdocca with Alice Dewey Goldston set as a producer.

The fourth film will no longer feature Adam Sandler as the lead and voice of Dracula, after voicing the character in the first three films. Now taking over the character is Brian Hull, who previously voiced the character in the recently released short film Monster Pets. Selena Gomez, who has voiced Mavis in each film, is returning for the final installment and will now serve as executive producer.

The ensemble cast for the first Hotel Transylvania films includes Adam SandlerSelena GomezAndy Samberg, David Spade, Molly Shannon, Steve Buscemi, Keegan-Michael Key, Asher Blinkoff, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Kathryn Hahn, and Jim Gaffigan.

The most recent entry in the series, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, debuted this past summer to the tune of $167.5 million domestically, nearly matching the second film in the series. Worldwide the film brought in $528.5 million, the highest of the franchise which has brought in $1.36 billion worldwide across the three films.
