The Premise Trailer: No Topic is Off Limits in B.J. Novak’s Anthology Series

Hulu has released the full trailer for B.J. Novak’s forthcoming comedy anthology series The Premise, featuring an all-star ensemble cast including Tracee Ellis Ross, Daniel Dae Kim, Jon Bernthal, Lucas Hedges, and more. The series is scheduled to make its debut on September 16 on FX on Hulu, with the first two episodes.

The Premise trailer, which you can check out below, offers us a preview of the first five episodes which teases each episode’s bold and provocative standalone stories about the times we live in. It includes stories involving: a sex tape that will be used as evidence in a police brutality case; a pop star offering whoever becomes the High school valedictorian one night with him; and a woman obsessed with her social media image.

Hosted by B.J. Novak, The Premise is a fearlessly ambitious new series that uses comedy to engage with the biggest issues of our unprecedented modern era. The first installment will be consisting of five episodes. Each episode will feature a different cast with a drastically different tone.

“The curated collection of character-driven episodes challenges our shared morality tales, choosing art over argument, as it engages with the most relevant and meaningful issues of the modern era,” reads the official synopsis. “The series grounds daring comedic premises with equally daring dramatic performances. A high-wire combination of topics and talent, The Premise establishes a new tone for a new time – the age of the unprecedented, bringing the stories we text about privately into the open.”

This includes Ben Platt, Tracee Ellis Ross, Daniel Dae Kim, Lola Kirke, Lucas Hedges, Kaitlyn Dever, Jon Bernthal, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Ed Asner, George Wallace, Boyd Holbrook, Beau Bridges, Soko, Jermaine Fowler, Ayo Edebiri, Eric Lange and more.

The Premise is created, written, and executive produced by Emmy nominee B.J. Novak (The Office), who also serves as the director on a few episodes. It is also produced by FX Productions with Oscar winner John Lesher serving as an executive producer.
