The film, which Seinfeld will star in, direct, and produce, is co-written by Seinfeld alongside Spike Feresten and Barry Marder, and is inspired by a joke that he told while doing stand-up about the world-shaking invention of Pop-Tarts. According to the report, Netflix has committed to green lighting the film, and production is set to begin next spring.

While Seinfeld and Netflix have a relationship already, the streamer wasn’t always guaranteed the rights to the film. The outlet states that over the past several days, an auction for the rights to the film was ongoing, but that Seinfeld’s relationship with Netflix’s Co-Chief Executive Officer and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos ended up proving helpful in bringing the film to the platform.

With Seinfeld once again partnering up with Netflix, it’ll mark another in a long line of collaborations between the two. The streaming platform and Seinfeld are no strangers to working together, ever since the comedian signed a deal with Netflix in 2017 that saw his Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee interview series to the streaming platform, as well as several stand-up specials including Jerry Before Seinfeld and 23 Hours to Kill. Netflix will also begin streaming episodes of the iconic sitcom Seinfeld beginning later this year after signing a deal.
