Shazam! 2 Set Photos Reveal First Look at Helen Mirren as Hespera

As production continues on Shazam! Fury of the Gods, a new batch of behind-the-scenes photos from the Atlanta set of Warner Brothers’ highly-anticipated sequel has surfaced online (via Just Jared). Yesterday, thanks to director David F Sandberg, fans have finally gotten a full look at the Shazam family in their new upgraded suits. This time, the new Shazam! sequel photos gave the spotlight to Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren which provided us our first look at her villainous role as Hespera. This marks the acclaimed actress’ first stint into the superhero genre. Before the upcoming 2022 DC sequel, Mirren will first next be seen in F9: The Fast Saga, which finally arrives in U.S. theaters this Friday.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods features the return of Asher Angel and Zachary Levi as they reprise their respective roles as Billy Batson and Shazam!. It also stars Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody as Freddy; Faithe Herman and Meagan Good as Darla; Ian Chen and Ross Bulter as Eugene; Grace Fulton as Mary; Jovan Arman and D.J. Cotrona as Pedro; Marta Milans, and Cooper Andrews.

After defeating Sivana and the Seven Deadly Sins two years ago, the sequel will now see the Shazam family going up against much more dangerous and godly threats, with the introductions of the daughters of Atlas, Hespera, and Kalypso, who are set to be portrayed by Oscar winner Helen Mirren and Kill Bill actress Lucy Liu. West Side Story star Rachel Zeigler has also been cast for an undisclosed key role. Further details about the sequel’s plot are still being kept under wraps.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is being directed by David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) from a screenplay written by Shazam! scribe Henry Gayden. It will be produced by Peter Safran.

The sequel is currently slated for a June 2, 2023 release.
