Sony ProbablyMonsters Firewalk Studios PlayStation Multiplayer IP

Sony Teams With Firewalk Studios For New PlayStation Franchise

Sony Interactive Entertainment has a new multiplayer-focused franchise in the works, and they’ve brought in ProbablyMonsters developer Firewalk Studios for the heavy lifting. Announced via the official PlayStation blog this morning, there’s no release date or even a title for the new game, but this original IP is said to be a next-generation AAA production set in a unique new world.

Firewalk Studios is one of three developers under the ProbablyMonsters umbrella. Formed in 2018, Firewalk has been hard at work on their first AAA franchise while ProbablyMonsters acts as a buffer between developer and publisher. The whole concept revolves around keeping AAA studios running in a traditionally volatile space.

Teaming with Sony for an exclusive IP is certainly one way to keep things secure, which is why Firewalk’s first game will release on PlayStation platforms exclusively. Studio head Tony Hsu said in the post that the team is already deep in development on their title and that they want their new game to create lasting memories for players. “For our team, the opportunity to create new worlds and inspire more amazing moments for players around the world is the fire and ambition that keeps us going.”

Firewalk’s new game joins PlayStation’s already impressive library of first-party franchises incoming for PlayStation 5. In the near future, games like Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will keep players busy. Later on, big sequels to Horizon: Zero Dawn and God of War will take up the PlayStation spotlight, and it’s almost guaranteed that Sony has a gameplan well beyond that thanks to deals like this one.
