Natalie Portman Signs First-Look TV Deal With Apple

According to Deadline, Academy Award winner Natalie Portman and producing partner Sophie Mas have officially signed a first-look and multi-year television deal with Apple, marking the duo’s first producing deal. Portman and Mas through their newly formed production company MountainA will develop and produce TV projects for Apple TV+.

“We launched MountainA to support meaningful, timely projects and we couldn’t imagine a better partner to start this adventure with than the fantastic team at Apple, who in only a short time already have a track record of working with some of the world’s most inspiring filmmakers,” Portman and Mas said in a joint statement. “We are excited to create and develop daring stories together.”

This new deal comes after Apple TV+ recently gave out a straight-to-series order to Alma Har’el and Dre Ryan’s upcoming limited series adaptation of Lady in the Lake which will be led and executive produced by Portman.

Portman gained critical acclaim for her roles in 2005’s Closer, 2011’s Black Swan, and 2016’s Jackie which all earned her Oscar nominations. For her performance in Black Swan, she had successfully won her first Academy Award and her second Golden Globe award, both for Best Actress. Her other notable film credits include Leon: The Professional, the Star Wars prequel trilogy, V for Vendetta, The Other Boleyn Girl, Brothers, Annihilation, and Vox Lux.

She is also known for portraying the role of Jane Foster in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who first appeared in the first Thor film. Portman will again reprise the role in Marvel Studios’ highly-anticipated Thor: Love and Thunder which will see the character taking on the mantle of the Mighty Thor. The film is currently in production in Australia and is still set for a May 6, 2022 release.
