Spiderhead: Chris Hemsworth, Jurnee Smollett & Miles Teller Join Netflix Drama

According to Entertainment Weekly, Netflix’s drama feature Spiderhead has added MCU alum Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Ragnarok, Extraction, Bad Times at the El Royale), Jurnee Smollett (Lovecraft Country, Birds of Prey, The Great Debaters), and Miles Teller (Top Gun: Maverick, Whiplash, Only the Brave) to its cast. The story is based on the short story Escape from Spiderhead by George Saunders that first ran in The New Yorker and was later added to his bestselling anthology collection Tenth of December.

The drama is set in the near future and follows two convicts who accept an offer to become medical subjects in exchange for reduced sentences. But are they prepared for what this experiment will bring to the surface? Each will be faced with dealing with their past as they become test patients for emotion-altering drugs while under the supervision of a brilliant visionary.

Spiderhead will be directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and will be written by Deadpool and Deadpool 2 screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

The movie will be produced by Eric Newman for Screen Arcade through Newman’s first-look deal at Netflix, along with Hemsworth. Producers also include Oren Katzeff and Geneva Wasserman for The New Yorker Studios alongside Reese, Wernick, Tommy Harper, and Jeremy Steckler.
