Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Prepares for Additional Shooting in August

As locations overseas have begun opening up for filming amidst a diminishing pandemic, Denis Villeneuve and his Dune cast and crew are prepping to head back to some of their previously filmed areas to shoot more material, according to Deadline.

Sources report that the film crew will be heading back to Budapest, Hungary, where some of the project was initially shot at the Origo Film Studios, in order to film additional material to help “size up” the highly-anticipated remake and that it is still on course for its December 18 release.

We’re going to do some additional shooting in mid August… they’re saying in Budapest in Hungary,” Oscar Isaac said in an interview. “I saw some things cut together and it just looks amazing. Denis [Villeneuve] is a real artist and it will be exciting to see it come together. It’s kind of wild that we’re doing some additional shooting a few months before it’s supposed to come out, but that happened with Star Wars as well.

The star-studded cast includes Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible — Fallout) and Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) in leading roles. The film will also feature Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home) Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men), Stellan Skarsgard (Thor: The Dark World), Charlotte Rampling (The Night Porter) and Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame).

Villeneuve is best known for directing Blade Runner 2049 as well as Sicario. Though Dune will likely resemble the former film more than the latter, both display the sort of experience directing arid, desolate locales that a fan would want in their Dune director, considering a sizable chunk of the story takes place on a desert planet.

Dune is currently set to be released in theaters on December 18, 2020.
