More Details on Henry Cavill’s Return to the DCEU as Superman

Following yesterday’s news that Henry Cavill is in negotiations to reprise his role as Superman in the DCEU, Deadline is now sharing details on the potential return.

Warner Bros. is reportedly not developing a Man of Steel sequel, nor will Cavill make any cameos in Wonder Woman 1984, The Suicide Squad, or in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

Projects that Cavill could possibly make an appearance in as Superman are Shazam 2, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, or Aquaman 2.

Since Cavill is good friends with Johnson, the likelihood is Superman could make a cameo in Black Adam, though, again, nothing has yet been confirmed about what the DCEU has in store for Superman.

Cavill first appeared in the role in the start to the DCEU Man of Steel followed by 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League, which was the inciting point for his potential exit from the role after reshoots caused a rift between the studio and the star as it conflicted with his work on Paramount Pictures’ Mission: Impossible — Fallout. He was set to appear in future DCEU films, including a cameo in David F. Sandberg’s Shazam!, but after being let go from the role, one of his stunt doubles stepped in for him instead without the face of the character being shown.

In the meantime, Cavill has been hard at work leading Netflix’s upcoming fantasy series adaptation The Witcher, which recently received an early Season 2 renewal. Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

Cavill’s upcoming projects also include the mystery drama Enola Holmes, where he will be portraying Sherlock Holmes.

What do you think about Superman’s possible return to the DCEU? Which movie do you hope he makes a cameo in? Would you like to see Superman become a presence character in the DCEU (similar to Nick Fury or The Hulk is in the MCU)? Sound off in the comments!
