Captain Phillips is Re-Releasing Into Theaters Today

Columbia Pictures is re-releasing Captain Phillips into about 1,000 theaters nationwide today, January 15th. The Paul Greengrass-directed film, which was originally released on October 10, 2013, has earned an impressive $213 million worldwide.

Captain Phillips stars two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks in the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years. The film is based on the book “A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea,” by Richard Phillips with Stephan Talty.

Catherine Keener, Barkhad Abdi, Max Martini, Yul Vazquez, Michael Chernus, Chris Mulkey, Corey Johnson, David Warshofsky, John Magaro and Angus MacInnes co-star.

The movie will also be available on Blu-ray and DVD on January 21.
