Universal Studios To Remain Closed Through May

With no end in sight for the global pandemic, Universal Studios has announced that its Orlando Resort and Hollywood theme park will remain closed through May 31 at the very minimum in an effort to keep their team members and guests safe.

In the park’s official statement, they address the unfortunate fact that the coronavirus “has impacted many parts of your life including your travel and vacation plans,” but that they will “be eager to welcome” guests back to the theme parks and destinations when the time comes, which won’t be any time soon as all locations will remain closed through the rest of April and May, including the CityWalk at both destination.

The park has offered guests comfort by confirming that any tickets purchased during the closure period will be automatically extended for use through December 18, with fans only needing to bring their existing ticket to the front gate turnstile and that those with a VIP ticket only need to call to reschedule their tour.

In addition, Universal has assured that fans with a season or annual pass won’t have to worry as any paid in full at the time of purchase will be extended by the number of days the theme parks are closed, with the extensions not altering the benefits and restrictions applicable to the Pass type. Those with passes through FlexPay have had their monthly payments paused with specific details being emailed to customers based on their contract type.

Universal was expected to open their new ride The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash! to the public on March 27, based on the Illumination Entertainment franchise. No new tentative date was given for the ride, which is expected to anchor a new Illumination “neighborhood” on the west side of the park’s Upper Lot.

The Hollywood park, which also acts as an active studio for films and television shows, closed its gates on March 14.
