Deadline brings word that Girls Trip star Regina Hall has signed on for the lead role in Amazon Studios‘ forthcoming supernatural horror drama film titled Master. Hall is set to portray the role of Gail Bishop, who is being described as the queer black master of the Belleville house at Ancaster, a liberal arts college outside Boston.

Hall first gained recognition for her roles as Brenda Meeks in the parody horror-comedy film franchise Scary Movie starring alongside Anna Faris. Her notable film credits include: About Last Night, Think Like a Man, Girls Trip, The Hate U Give, and Little.

Master will follow the story of two African American women at a predominantly white college in Massachusetts named Ancaster – one head of students (aka Master) and one a freshman. Things get more difficult when they soon start to experience haunting activities ingrained in the history of the school. Hall’s character Gail Bishop must manage her campus as instances of racism cause tensions while students and faculty are haunted by sinister supernatural forces.

The film will be written and directed by Mariama Diallo, who is known for directing short horror-comedy film Hair Wolf which had won at the Sundance Film Festival. Hall will also be serving as an executive producer with Andrea Roa, Brad Becker-Parton and Josh Astrachan set as producers.
