Clueless Series Reboot in Development at CBS TV Studios

Deadline brings word that CBS TV Studios is developing a Clueless series reboot inspired by the 1995 film as well as the 1996 comedy series.

The outlet notes that a number of streamers are interested in the project in addition to The CW. The series is centered around the Dionne character played by Stacey Dash in the feature.

Clueless is also set in high school. It is described as a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latté and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when the high school Queen Bee (Cher) disappears and her life-long number two (Dionne) steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans. How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend, all in a setting that is uniquely 2020 LA?

The series will be written by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey (Will & Grace). American Gothic and No Tomorrow creator Corinne Brinkerhoff will executive produce alongside her development executive Tiffany Grant. Brinkerhoff currently has an overall deal at CBS TV Studios. Clueless movie producer Robert Lawrence will also EP the series.

CBS TV Studios owns the rights to the Clueless movie from Paramount, which also starred Alicia Silverstone (Cher), Brittany Murphy, and Paul Rudd. The studio’s predecessor, Paramount Network Television, produced the 1996 half-hour comedy series created by feature director Amy Heckerling.
