Family Horror Anthology Ameri-Scares Headed to Television

According to Deadline, Academy Award-nominated actress Margot Robbie (Birds of Prey) and her production company LuckyChap Entertainment are in the process of developing a family-friendly horror anthology series titled Ameri-Scares, based on author Elizabeth Massie’s book series of the same name.

“With Ameri-Scares we saw the perfect opportunity for us to delve into the horror space, and tell the kind of unique and scary stories we used to tell each other around the campfire or at sleepovers as kids,” Robbie and her company said in a statement. “We’re excited to team with our partners at Assemble and Warner Horizon to bring Elizabeth Massie’s cross-country series of thrilling mysteries and haunting folk stories to life.”

In Ameri-Scares, every episode would take place in a different state and will feature stories about famous local legends or mysterious historical events. The series is being developed for television or for a streaming service. It will be produced by Robbie, Brett Hedblom and Josey McNamara through their LuckyChap Entertainment banner. Assemble Media’s Jack Heller and Brendan Deneen are also set as producers.

“As fans of horror fiction that appeals to both teens and adults alike, we knew as soon as we read Ameri-Scares that Elizabeth had created something very special and of-the-moment,” Assemble’s president of Literary and IP Development, Deneen said. “We’re thrilled to be working with LuckyChap and Warner Horizon on this spooky new series.”
